About me
I am
a farmers daughter originally from Lancashire but have lived and worked in
Stevenage, Herts for the past 40 years. I have always painted following initial
training in graphic design, but since retirement from social work, have subsequently pursued my painting and drawing seriously and had
several exhibitions.
I like to cover a great variety of subjects, images often arising from travels
and from local influences. I like to portray intimate images of subjects for
which I have a strong affection, whether landscape or figurative.
I have become very involved with pastel drawing in recent years, and always
start from total charcoal black background, erasing the image out of the black,
with rubbers, which intensifies light and dark and adds atmosphere. This in
turn influenced my method of painting; working from black and painting light
areas and negative shapes, then building up the picture from this.
